Ham and Cheese Sliders
Ham and cheese sliders are not fancy. They are night-before work that pays off when the lot gets hungry before the main grill is ready.
Yield: 30 small sandwiches (about 10–15 people as a snack — scale the pan if your crew is smaller).
Ingredients
- 30 Hawaiian-style rolls or other ~2-inch bakery rolls (keep them connected in sheets if they come that way)
- 2 lb shaved deli ham
- 1 lb Monterey Jack (or mild cheddar), shredded
- 1 cup (2 sticks) butter
- 2 Tbsp yellow or Dijon mustard
- 2 tsp Worcestershire sauce
Optional turkey lane: swap ham for shaved turkey and Jack for Swiss; melt 1–2 Tbsp mayonnaise into the butter with the Worcestershire instead of mustard.
Method
- Split the rolls (or slice the sheet horizontally). Layer ham and cheese so every roll gets a solid bite. Set them back in a 9×13 (or foil hotel pan) so they stay packed tight.
- Melt butter; stir in mustard and Worcestershire. Pour evenly over the tops so it soaks the cut edges. Cover and chill overnight.
- On the lot: set the pan on a low / medium-low grill, cover (lid or foil), and heat about 15–20 minutes until the cheese melts and the tops brown lightly. Homegate: 350°F oven, same window.
- Cut apart if still sheeted. Serve hot — pass the tray, don’t plate every one.
Lot notes
- Food cooler, not drinks cooler. Overnight chill at home; nest the covered pan on ice for the drive. See Food Safety on the Lot.
- Low heat wins. Scorched sugar on sweet rolls tastes like regret.
- Assign a snack minder the same way you assign ice — foil pans on a shared grill need watching.
- Wheat · dairy · pork (or turkey) — label if guests need a clear lane.
- Homegate: same overnight pour; oven finish during the Sunday slate.
Make them once, melt them when the crew clusters, and keep the main protein honest.
