Spikeball

Overview

Spikeball (roundnet) is a circle game. Four people, one net, one ball. It only works when the miss lands in grass you don’t have to apologize for — classic open-grass.

Why it’s a good choice

2v2 energy that feels like a sport without needing a full field. Spectator-friendly. Higher athleticism than bags — good when the crew wants to move. Kids can play with a lower serve and softer house rules.

Where best to play

Level grass with a circle clear around the net — people move fast; coolers don’t. Asphalt is miserable for ankles and the ball. If the circle crosses a driving lane or someone else’s canopy line, pack it. No circle? Catch or a tight-spot toss instead.

Rules

  1. 2v2. Serve onto the net; teams get up to 3 touches to return it onto the net.
  2. Ball hits the ground / rim fault / more than 3 touches — point the other way (agree rim rules once).
  3. Play to 21, win by 2. Short slate to 15 if kickoff is close.

Gear / setup notes

Spikeball / roundnet set (net + rim + legs) · soft ball (+ spare) · optional ground stakes in wind. Rim roughly waist-high.

Clear the circle. Then spike.
