Track Ball / Scoop Ball
Overview
Track ball (scoop ball) is catch with a launch. Plastic scoops, a soft ball, and a lane wide enough that a miss doesn’t rewrite someone’s windshield. Campus lawn: yes. Bumper-to-bumper stall: leave it in the car.
Why it’s a good choice
More novelty than plain catch without needing a net or bases. Kids love the scoop launch; adults can stretch distance. Keep-away for four works when the circle stays off walkways. Soft ball only — that’s the whole safety case.
Where best to play
Open grass or a wide empty lane — see open-grass throw. Players face each other with room to miss left and right. If the miss zone includes cars or a road, switch to short-range catch or a tight-spot toss.
Rules
- Catch with the scoop, scoop-launch back. That’s the whole game.
- Agree underhand launches only if kids or tents are close.
- Add a third for a triangle. Still one ball in the air.
- Keep-away for four: circle stays off walkways and cook lines.
Gear / setup notes
- 2+ scoops · 1 soft ball made for the set (not a baseball) · spare ball for tall grass
- Scoops crack in cold — pack a spare if the set is old
Scoop, launch, miss into grass — not into chrome.
