Tailgating 101: Setup on the Lot
Arrive, claim your footprint, get shade and fire up — then invite the crew in.
Arrive window
Park, then unload in order: table and canopy before cooler archaeology. Heavy flat gear first; food stays iced until the footprint is real.
Footprint
Canopy / tent: stakes vs weights for your surface. Use enclosures and sides when wind or rain calls for them. Keep drive lanes clear for emergency vehicles and neighbors rolling late.
Table + chairs
Set traffic flow before the crew fills in — kids and games toward the quieter edge when you can.
Grill placement
Wind, distance from canopy fabric, extinguisher or water habit nearby. This is ops fire safety — Tailgate Favorites live under Menu.
Weather comfort
Finish the shelter and keep the crew competent when the forecast flips.
- Add sides for wind or rain — don’t wait until the chips are airborne.
- Weight every leg on asphalt; stakes only where the lot allows.
- Leave the grill outside the enclosed box, or under open sky with a wind screen that doesn’t trap CO.
- Confirm canopy size vs your lot’s tent rules (Guides).
Heat play: fan across the shade, water in reach, grill minder still assigned.
Cold play: sides up, safe heater or layers, extinguisher/water in the same mental row as the grill.

Screen last (optional)
If you’re running a TV or projector, set it after shade and table — see Planning’s watching-the-game notes and the connectivity how-to →.
Leave it cleaner
Bags out. Ashes only where allowed. Asphalt kinder than you found it.
