Whiffle Ball
Overview
Whiffle ball is a lawn game. Plastic ball, light bat, bases you invent with cones or shoes. It belongs in open grass — never aimed at parked cars.
Why it’s a good choice
Full “we’re playing ball” energy without a hardball’s liability. Mixed ages, short innings, easy house rules. Carry a spare ball — they crack. Wind owns a light ball; shorten the field or sit one out when it’s howling.
Where best to play
Point home plate so a hard swing’s miss lands in empty grass or a hill — not windshields. Short bases: 30–45 feet. If you can’t call foul territory without including someone else’s tent, you’re in the wrong footprint.
Rules
- Pitch underhand. Three strikes / briefly agree walks.
- Outs: catch in air, force at base, or tag — pick a house set and stick to it.
- Short innings. Kickoff doesn’t wait for a full nine.
- Hard bats and real softballs are a worse idea near chrome. Keep it plastic.
