Guest Glory
Great guests do not need a second setup. They need timing, a useful contribution, and cleanup energy.
Guest Glory is the ritual of being memorable for the right reasons — so the captain texts you next week without a guilt trip. If you are brand-new to lots, start with Rookie Calm; this page is the “earn the encore” layer.
Before you go
- Text an ETA and any dietary constraints. Silence is how hosts overcook or under-buy.
- Ask what helps — ice, cups, a side, trash bags, a folding table, hands at setup. Let the captain steer so you do not duplicate the third tray of brownies and skip the ice.
- Confirm arrive window, spot landmark, and colors. Match the vibe on purpose.
- Skim venue basics on Lot Rules the week of the game — glass, flame, generators — then follow whatever the host already planned.
Hosts: put a short “what helps” line in the group chat. Glory is mutual. A one-liner beats a passive-aggressive cooler glare.
Do this (invite-back energy)
- Never arrive empty-handed. Drinks you will share, ice, cups, a ready-to-serve side, dessert that travels, or the MVP supplies (trash bags, paper towels, wet wipes, can opener). Put food and drinks into the shared plan — not a private bunker.
- Bring the hardware your dish needs. Spoon, knife, small board, serving bowl. Do not make the host dig for your entrée’s missing utensil.
- Arrive in the gather window — usually within the first hour after the official start — unless they asked you early for setup help.
- Greet the host first. Offer hands before you offer opinions.
- Help with setup and take-down. Carry, stake, wipe, bag, fold. Guests who disappear at pack-up rarely get the next pin drop.
- Share without raiding. Offer what you brought; ask before you dig into labeled coolers or the last of a tray.
- Watch the kids / pets / walkways if that is the crew’s vibe — keep chairs and cords out of lanes.
- Photograph the crew, not only the cooler flex. Send a couple shots to the host afterward. Belonging likes receipts.
- Leave the asphalt (or patio) kinder. Bag trash, pick up bottle caps that are not even yours, pour meltwater where the host wants it — not into a walkway slick.
- Thank the captain on the way out. Specific thanks (“ice run + canopy stakes”) sticks.

Don’t do this (how invites die)
- Don’t arrive empty-handed or with “I’ll just grab whatever.”
- Don’t show up late for food and early for free drinks — then vanish when chairs fold.
- Don’t overstay after pack-up starts. When the truck is loading, you are either helping or in the way.
- Don’t rearrange the host’s system — cooler layout, grill zone, table flow — without being asked.
- Don’t invite extras without asking. Food, chairs, and parking are finite.
- Don’t butcher the playlist or hog the grill. Offer a song; do not seize the aux. Offer to flip burgers; do not redesign the cook.
- Don’t bring a competing whole entrée or second grill unless asked. Extend the table; do not open a franchise war.
- Don’t raid, critique, or “improve” someone else’s cooler out loud in front of guests.
- Don’t block lanes, claim a paid spot that is not yours, or leave glass where it is banned.
- Don’t be the volume problem — especially as an away fan. Heat is fine; hostility is not.
- Don’t leave your mess for “the host’s system.” If you brought it in, help get it out.
- Don’t assume leftovers are yours unless they are offered. Hosts often plan postgame packs on purpose.
Homegate guests
Same manners, house edition: ask where to park, whether to bring a chair, and when kids should shift inside. Shoes, volume, and kitchen traffic are real. See Homegate.
Host tip that creates glory
In the chat, write one concrete line:
Spot near the oak / purple canopy · arrive 9:30–10:30 · we need ice + a side · hands for take-down after
Rookies and veterans both relax when the target is visible. Point first-timers at Rookie Calm and your Pregame checklist.

Guest Glory is simple: extend the table, protect the plan, leave the place kinder. Do that, and you will not wonder whether you are invited back — you will already have the pin.
