Florida football tailgate at Ben Hill Griffin Stadium · Gainesville, FL

In Gainesville the scene is Gator Walk and the Village, then Ben Hill Griffin, the Swamp. Walk times and gate times move, so check that week’s Know Before You Go before you treat any clock as final.

Must see / do

Around campus

  • Gator Walk and Gator Walk Village are the team-arrival corridor and the West University lawn. Take the minutes from that week’s Know Before You Go. It’s often about 2:20 to 2:30 before kick. Don’t treat that as a forever clock.
  • Fan Fest and the Plaza show up when they’re on the schedule, on the O’Connell Gate 2 lawn or as a Plaza of the Americas road show on big weeks. Check Know Before. It isn’t every Saturday.
  • Inside, Mr. Two Bits leads the pregame cheer, then the Gator Chomp, and I Won’t Back Down between the third and the fourth. That’s the Swamp.

Before the game

  • University Avenue and Midtown are the student and bar corridor west of campus. Use the athletics road-closure maps, not a guess.
  • Park-and-ride, Celebration Pointe, and Garage 109 shuttles run from 3 hours before kick until kick, and back from the fourth quarter. The fees are on Know Before.
  • Public gates often open 1.5 hours before kick, not a blanket 2 hours. Confirm it that week.

On the lot

  • Setup is no earlier than 6:00 a.m., and 8:00 a.m. in booster lots.
  • The Business Affairs rules and the UAA lot matrix are in the overview. Don’t guess the clocks.

Overview

  • Setup no earlier than 6:00 a.m. gameday, or 8:00 a.m. in Booster lots. Clear by 3:00 a.m. after the game.
  • General outdoor areas are first come. No saving spaces. No garages, drive aisles, rooftops, or vacant public spaces, except designated TAPS RV lots and Booster surface lots.
  • Tents max 12×10, 120 sq ft, without a Temporary Structures permit. Secure them without ground stakes.
  • Alcohol is 21+ only, from 6:00 a.m. to 3:00 a.m. after the game. Open containers stay in the designated tailgate area, not on sidewalks or streets.
  • Keep the grill attended, on a level non-flammable surface, at least 25 feet from structures, vehicles, and tents. No open flames or fire pits. Cool the ashes and put them in outdoor trash, not cardboard.
  • Your own muffled generator is OK. No University outlets. Tobacco-free campus. Recreational drones are banned.
  • Many UAA lots open at 8:00 a.m. ET on gameday. No re-entry. Tent size there is often 10×10 per pass.

The written rules and what an officer calls that Saturday aren’t always the same. Confirm yours the week of the game.
